A Canadian by birth, implanted into Melbourne over two decades ago, Chris Budgeon has spent his time in Australia honing his photographic craft. Now one of the country’s most acclaimed photographers, he has been ranked eleven times among Lürzer’s Archive Top 200 Advertising Photographers worldwide, as well as maintaining a consistent and highly recognised personal practice.
Chris has been a finalist in Australia’s National Photographic Portrait Prize seven times, as well as numerous finalist berths in such prizes as Bowness, Taylor Wessing, Moran, Olive Cotton, Ulrick & Schubert and the Martin Kantor Award. Chris' images appear regularly in the photographic annuals Graphis (including the cover of this year's GraphisNude V), Communication Arts and PDN. In 2012 he was the joint winner of the Head On Portrait Prize. He has exhibited widely and is held in numerous public and private collections.
Alongside this powerful personal practice, Chris continues a prolific commercial practice. Based in Melbourne, he is sought after nationally for his original conceptual and character-based work. His eye for detail, compositional skill, great energy and personable nature have made him a favourite of clients throughout his career.
