Mark Clinton is driven by two things: curiosity and a near-total inability to say no to a good opportunity. This has served him well. It’s also how he ended up at 18,000ft in an unpowered glider, capturing a mountain biker descending an active volcano, and most recently committed to an 18-month athlete project that finished with gold at the Winter Olympics.
Raised on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, his eye for environment is matched by a genuine fascination with people, and the best of his work lives right where those two things collide. Mountaintops, surf breaks, studio sets, the quiet in-between moments – he treats them all with the same energy and the same eye.
Mark’s secret weapon is presence. He gets in the thick of it – whether that means sitting in the snow patiently waiting or crouching between a camera operator’s legs on set – and that willingness to fully immerse himself gives his images a warmth and immediacy that’s hard to fake. He’s also easy to spot in a crowd.
