Warwick Thornton

Director

A performance driven director with a flair for shooting drama and unearthing new talent, Warwick is a versatile storyteller who can write, direct and shoot his own work.

A proud Kaytetye man, he was born and raised in Alice Springs. It was here he found his voice as a filmmaker. And films are exactly what he has made… Most recently, Wolfram (2026), the sequel to the multi award-winning Australian western, Sweet Country (2017) and The New Boy (2023) starring Cate Blanchett and Aswan Reid which premiered at the 2023 Cannes International Film Festival – just to name a few. He has also directed for television series and documentaries. Oh, and really, really cinematic and thought provoking commercials if you want one of those…

If you are after a unique voice, a breathtaking storyteller, a visual savant or an indigenous perspective (or perhaps all of the above) then you can do no better than Warwick.
